If you happen to visit St Ives, be it for a day or an extended stay then there’s no better way immerse yourself in the variety of gluten free food that the town can offer. It’s always worth checking with your servers wherever you go but a lot of the town’s restaurants and bars offer something to eat if you’re avoiding wheat, so don’t be in fear!
Steps from Fore Street, the main street in St Ives lies the quaint luxury café, The Digey Food Room. It’s hard to miss as you’ll see the multicoloured logo from the street. Inside the café has so much to offer, whether it’s a snack or a sit down and a bite to eat you’re after you can be sure to be able to enjoy some sunshine as The Digey has some outside seating (a must when the weather’s nice!). When we went we took advantage of their daily salad pots, a pick and mix of beetroots, rice and so much more. Everything inside has been labeled as to whether or not it’s gluten free and they always have a gluten free cake or two! Our favourite was the lemon drizzle polenta cake coupled with some Cornish Orchards Elderflower Presse – perfect for a warm afternoon.
If there were to be one downside about The Digey it would be that it’s almost too popular, sometimes you might not be lucky enough to get a table but if so fortunately you can have one of their salad pots to go and a lot of their cakes and other niceties can be boxed and bagged for the beach so fear not and enjoy the day!
